Refurbishment of Listed Building, Axbridge, Somerset

This grade II listed building was a derelict Somerset long-barn when Mr and Mrs Edwards bought it and planning permission and listed building consent were secured to extend and refurbish it.

The rear extension and internal walls were carefully detailed and specified to comply with the Conservation Officer’s requirements and to ensure a robust specification and tender package were prepared.

Grade II LIsted Building by Collier Reading Architects based in Wells.

Collier Reading managed the project with a local contractor and administered the contract to a successful conclusion. Extra work and costs which are inevitable on a project of this sort were kept to a minimum and the use of provisional sums enabled budget expectations to be kept to.

A number of years after completion has seen the external finishes “weather-in” and the rear extension looks as if it has always been there.

Interestingly the owners lobbied the residents of the flats opposite to seek the preferred colour for the render as it is they who would be looking at it!
