Residential Redevelopment, Tetsworth

Collier Reading Architects were approached by ‘Equibuild’, a division of Martin Collins Enterprises based in Berkshire, to prepare a set of working drawings for a large extension to an existing farmhouse on the outskirts of Tetsworth, Oxfordshire.

The existing farmhouse was in a state of much needed modernisation and repair, resulting in planning permission being obtained to carry out the works to include a huge 800sqm extension wing comprising of a large winter and summer living room, kitchen, master suite, office and cinema room.

Collier Reading has worked in tandem with Equibuild and Adrienne Anderson Associates (Structural Engineers) to develop a tangible resolution for the construction, which has now commenced on site.

The building fabric will incorporate a steel frame structure with timber infill to achieve a high level of insulation. Furthermore a beam and block ground floor and wide span concrete floor has been agreed for the development. The extension will be linked to the existing property via a double height glass walkway, creating a strong distinction between the old and the new, whilst the proposed vertical timber cladding, slate roof finish, brick plinth and frameless glass windows will provide a sleek, crisp façade, to the somewhat industrial method of construction not usually adopted for a residential property.
